Urban Lounge, Salt Lake City: Anything for the photo

We’ve made it to Salt Lake City.

Snow-topped mountains out every window. It’s a nice change of scenery, but it’s COLD.

Yesterday was a long travel day. Somewhere in the middle of nowhere, we stopped for a quick bite and found a damn good steak sandwich. Sometimes the best meals show up where you least expect them.

Today we headed out to the Salt Flats before the show.

It turned into a cold, rainy day. We trudged across the flats with mud soaking through our shoes. Anything for the photo.

Then we drove back for soundcheck.

Before the show I squeezed in a quick gym session, and on the walk back I saw my first-ever double rainbow.

Tonight’s crowd was so enthusiastic, and we could feel you from the very first notes. Thank you, Salt Lake City.

After the show we loaded the RV back up, threw a post-gig dance party inside, and hit the road for Colorado.

THE ROOM

Urban Lounge sits at 241 South 500 East, on the edge of downtown Salt Lake City, sharing a wall with RYE Diner & Drinks. It's been open since 2001. In January 2008 Will Sartain and Lance Saunders, the booking pair behind S&S, became partial owners, the same month they took over the all-ages Kilby Court. Their company, S&S Presents, now runs it alongside Kilby Court, Metro Music Hall and The Complex.

It's a 400-capacity room with a low stage, a wood floor, a corner bar and hardly anywhere to sit, so everyone ends up close to the band. Karl Malone and John Stockton look down from the walls, and locals just call it Urban. The show was 21+, doors at 7.
