First time in Grand Junction, and the journey there was nothing short of hypnotic. Winding through towering mountains and endless stretches of trees, surrounded by some of the most breathtaking scenery I’ve ever seen in the U.S. There was something hauntingly beautiful about the stillness of it all. The kind of drive that makes you forget where you’re going and just surrender to the road.
Once we arrived, we wandered through downtown, grabbed some delicious sandwiches, and stumbled upon a little piano sitting outside the shop. Naturally, I couldn’t resist. With DEADGRACE’s first single, “BFS,” freshly unleashed into the world, I decided to summon its melody on the piano. Let’s just say it sounds a little less sinister than it does screaming through a baritone sax.
After some backstage mischief and laughs in the green room, it was time to unleash the beast.
GRAND JUNCTION, YOU WERE THUNDEROUS. The roar of the crowd shook the room, and watching so many of you come straight to the front and surrender to the chaos was intoxicating. That exchange of energy between us and you is what makes this whole thing come alive.
Loved meeting so many of you at the merch table afterward and putting faces to the beautiful creatures who came out to experience DEADGRACE.
THE ROOM
The Mesa Theater sits at 538 Main Street in downtown Grand Junction, and the building has been a stage of some kind for more than 140 years. It opened in 1885 as the Mesa Opera Rink, became the Majestic Theater after a 1907 remodel, took the Mesa name in 1930, and was rebuilt as a movie house in 1953. The marquee and much of that 1953 look are still there.
It stopped showing films in 1987 and now runs as a bar and concert room that holds about 850 standing.
NEXT
Albuquerque, Backstage @ Revel, on the 20th. Then Phoenix and Las Vegas. Dates and tickets are on the tour page.
